James walked into the bar, thinkin' only of getting decently toasted before maybe making his way to the town's big New Year's Eve bash. He hadn't exactly told Kate he'd be there, but it weren't like he had much else to do tonight. He weren't even sure he could see the Times Square ball dropping up here in Canada. Maybe they had all the good American channels blocked or somethin'.

So, anyway. He walked up to the bar. Only a few people were there, and there was a handy row of three empty stools. Obeyin' the rules of mostly empty bars and men's bathrooms everywhere, James sat down on th' stool in the middle. "Three shots a whiskey," he said, raising his chin and looking at the bartender.

"Gimme' a shot of tequila." having finished nursing her drink, the woman took the shot and downed it in an instant, tipping her head back. Slamming the glass down onto the counter her dark eyes moved their gaze to someone all too familiar.

Furrowing her eyebrows, Ana turned to get up and leave. She wasn't ready for this emotional shit. Slapping down the money. "Keep the change, Joe."

Setting his first empty shotglass on th' bartop, James glanced to his left, ta admire whoever it was that could take a shot like that and just -- aw, fuck. "Fuck," he said aloud, looking over at Ana-Lucia.

"Guess Kate weren't going insane after all. What're you doin' up outta yer grave, Miss Freaky?"

Gritting her teeth, practically grinding them had Ana whirled on her heel. "Why do you people think I'm dead?" rolling her eyes back into a glare like she always did. Ana-Lucia even found herself in her usual stance with her arms folded across her chest.

There was a knot in her stomach. "Go find your girlfriend, I'm sure she'll want to do something, it is New Years and that is all she's good for." then she turned to stalk off.

James snorted with laughter, watching Ana start to storm away. "Probably think yer dead 'cause we buried you. Makes sense in a lotta ways, really," he mused, wrapping his fingers around the next shot.

After downing it, he continued, "Guess death made ya into even more of a bitter bitch than you were afore, huh?"

Once again, she slowly turned to look at him. "Bitter?" a slow yet eerily disturbing smile set on her full unpainted lips. "You don't know why I'm so bitter. Bet you wouldn't even give a shit if I told you." Ana wasn't like Kate, she didn't run. The bartender was already getting slightly nervous but he knew the woman well. "This guy old ex or something, Cortez?" he asked unsure of what to do.

"No." the Hispanic beauty as if like lightning snapped her head to the side to see the bartender and finally settled back in her seat, there was one empty one between them. "Gimme' another shot." she'd sit here till she was ass drunk, miserable that's what she was.

James watched Ana for another couple of beats, a grin still tugging at his lips. "Uh-huh," he hummed, turning back around to face the bar. He grinned at the barkeep. "She only got in town, what, two days ago, an' you two already best friends?" Nodding at Ana, he added, "Nice work, Lucy."

He was pushing it. The slender girl got up from her seat, leaving her shot glass full and ready, moving over towards Sawyer so it looked like she was reaching for the magazine and look at. But at last minute her hand balled into a fist and she punched him in the face.

Grabbing onto the magazine had the little Rambina moved back over towards her shot, downed it and then opened up the book to read.

"What th --" James exclaimed, spilling his shot all over the counter as he reached up to grab his jaw, stinging sore from Ana's hard punch. "You fucking bitch, what the fuck!" He stood up, glaring over at her. Fuckin' hell, that hurt. "The fuck is wrong with you?" He rubbed his jaw, deeply regrettin' that this had to happen in a bar. If they were out on th' street, he wouldn't hesitate to return the punch, but here it probably wouldn't go over so well with th' others in the bar.

"What the fuck indeed!" she growled, standing up right in front of him now. Close. Only she had boobs and a big height difference being the petite 5'4. "You gonna' hit an officer?" Ana tilted her head to the side, watching him with those intense eyes. The bar seemed to be getting empty now. She was half surprised the bartender didn't care.

James snorted. "Yeah, like you really got jurisdiction up here. Plus, way I remember it, you only used ta be a cop, babe." He shook his head, a grin returning to his face. He looked like he pitied her more than a little as he sat back down on the counter. Downing his last shot, he gave her another look, eyeing her all the way up and down. "You think I'm not rememberin' the last time we got in a fight? Rememberin' how it ended last time?" He leered.

So that wasn't working. Threatening him didn't seem to do it. Ana-Lucia watched his eyes when he had spoken those words. How it ended. Yeah, she knew exactly how it ended. Still, she took a few steps toward him, seeing as the bartender went out for a smoke considering the place was so empty. Seeing him on that counter, brought back fond memories.

"I stole your gun." a sickeningly sweet smile.

James also noticed the bartender heading out for a moment. As soon as he was outta sight, then, James dipped over the counter, grabbed th' bottle of whiskey, which was nice and close, and refilled his three shot glasses afore setting the bottle back behind the bar. He didn't answer Ana, despite the grin playing along his face, and his raised, skeptical eyebrows, until after he downed two of them.

"Yeah, I guess that were one of the results," James nodded, giving her that. "Guess so." He looked at her again, blue eyes sharp and amused.

For the first time in a long time, she felt at ease. Ana smirked when he had filled up his drinks. "You have to pay for those you know." a joke, actual sarcasm. Still, she had to stand her ground. "I forgot the other result... but that gun wasn't very useful... well to a point." eying him.

"I was going to kill Ben." she nearly muttered it.

"Guy shouldn't a left his bar unattended with hooligans like me around," James quipped, reaching fer the bottle again, the motion accompanied by a crooked grin thrown Ana's way.

"Ah, that's what th' whole thing were for then, huh? Way to kill ol' Head Honcho himself? Well, instead, looks like ya got yerself killed, didn't it?" He shrugged, fillin' another shotglass and sliding it her way before downing another shot himself.

So apparently Ana had died? "What is this, a different universe?" Ana-Lucia would believe anything at this point as she took the shot glass and downed it. "You're trying to get me drunk." but when her mind settled back on Ben the girl muttered silently. "Son of a bitch, I knew it... knew he was lying."
