Getting bananas out of a tree was a much more familiar process than simply plucking them out of a display in the produce section. )

Ana-Lucia didn't want fruit. Yet here she had one of those trail mix bags in her arms complete with sun flower seeds, dried fruits and peanuts. Looking over to the bananas her hazel gaze stared at them for a long while. But was it the bananas she was looking at or the woman who had them? Didn't matter as she was obviously seeing things and headed towards another aisle. Squinting a little to read a label, Ana turned her head back in a flash.

No mistake. That was Kate.

"What the hell is she doing here." the woman thought with mild remorse and anger. The island had been something she wanted to put behind her but it'd be something she could never forget.

Part of living as a fugitive for the majority of her adult years had taught her to attain that sixth sense, to know the feeling of someone's eyes on her. Kate could feel that now, but her instincts told her not to make any sudden movements or react as though she knew she was being watched. Instead, she simply carried on as normal, stopping to examine a few boxes of cereal while she caught a glimpse of the woman watching her in her periphery.

Ana-Lucia. The name registered in her brain like an icy jolt, and even though her facial expression never changed, her shoulders tensed slightly.

Forget it. Where Kate was then so was trouble. Above all. She was disgusted. Moving that trail mix bag to her opposite hand had she taken the elastic out of her hair that had made the ponytail and tried to keep what she called 'undercover'. The woman wasn't afraid to face her fears but this bitch could wait.

She moved the cart forward and placed the bag on top part, freeing up her hands to place the elastic on her wrist.

All systems go, you better believe Cortez hauled ass out of there, but slowly as if it didn't even matter to her and it was a regular old day at the supermarket.

Ana-Lucia had disappeared from her sight, and Kate almost breathed a sigh of relief before nearly chuckling at herself. How ridiculous was it that she couldn't even pretend to be civilized? It was like the island had regressed all of them to a point where it was nearly impossible for them to function in normal society.

Turning around, she started pushing her cart toward the front of the store to check out with her things.

In the process, she rounded a corner way too quickly and ran into a tower of cans, knocking a few over with a loud clatter.

That's when the commotion started. She would have then really hauled ass out of there but decided to go see who had knocked down everything. Not to point and laugh but rather...help them.

But that was the ironic thing when Ana placed the cart over to the side and moved over toward the fallen cans.

"Figures, I find some place where I think it's nice and it turns out to have you in it." was all the rasp of a voice exhaled. Not even offering to help.

"Where's your boyfriend?"

Kate was already on her knees picking up the spilled cans, and her attention had been diverted to the mess in front of her. She didn't notice the approaching cart, nor the person pushing it over in her direction.

Rather than respond right away, she put the cans back first, brushing her hands off on her knees and placing them on her hips.

"It's a free country," she responded, lifting an eyebrow. "Besides, I didn't exactly think anyone else would be showing up here.

"And I wouldn't know," Kate added. "He's not my boyfriend."

"A free country doesn't mean criminals like you get to walk all over it." Ana-Lucia smiled sweetly as she moved her cart past the cans and decided to get the hell out of there. Before leaving however she turned to look back to the woman who seemed to be so sure of herself. "If he's not your boyfriend ... forget it. Austen, another time." gritting her teeth as the Latina moved to the check out line, hastily using the self check out and with a swipe of a credit card was gone.

Bitch.
