The place weren't bustlin', but it sure weren't empty, either, James noted as he glanced around the yellowy-lit diner. Coupla folks at the counter, few waitstaff bustlin' around in the dinin' area and the kitchen, and some people scattered 'bout at the chipped tiled tables. After pausing in the entryway, he nodded in response to a waitress who caught his eye and gestured at the counter.

Sitting comfortably in a worn leather stool nexta a brunette -- damn beautiful one at that, James noted with an inward grin -- and pulled a plastic menu toward him. Before he really had the chance ta look it over, though, the same waitress as before, long blond hair pulled back inta a messy bun at the back of her head, pointy chin and wide smile directed at James, stopped in front of the man and raised her eyebrows expectantly.

Letting the menu drop with a soft slap onto the counter, James grinned. "It too early ta get a cheeseburger 'round here?" he asked, then glanced quickly up and down the counter -- nope, no beer taps present, so this probably weren't the place in town ta get a pint. "And some coffee, I guess," James added, his naturally somewhat loud voice ringing out inta the pretty quiet diner, a Southern twang sounding remarkably out of place this far north.

She might have been intently reading all the important news that filled all two pages of the Aternaville Times, but Brennan still noticed the attractive stranger take a seat next to her and order his cheeseburger. Wait, his cheeseburger?

"I don't think that is the best nutritional option to begin your day" she said without looking up from her paper.

Tappin' his fingers on the countertop, James slowly tilted his head and turned toward the brunette to his left. He didn't bother ta stop the grin spreading across his face. "Yeah? Last I heard, it's got at least five a the food groups. Sounds pretty damn nutrious ta me."

She looked at the man, "I don't think half a piece of iceburg lettuce and a thin slice of tomato negates the fried cholesterol patty under it or the fries on the side. But," she conceded with a lift of an eyebrow, "I suppose it beats steak and eggs."

(( So this is me showing my newbie tendencies, at least in this form of RP. Since the thread below this one kind of intersects with this one... do we continue this RP, or does it stop since Sawyer would be distracted by Kate? :o ))

(OOC: Um, I'm kinda new too. You can do whatever you want I guess. I don't mind if Sawyer leaves to talk to Kate. :) )

"That it do," James said, increasingly distracted by the woman at the door. Shooting the brunette with the paper another grin afore he turned ta face the other woman completely, he nodded his head and said quickly, "'Scuse me."

As he sat back down with Kate, after downin' his lukewarm coffee, James made a point of lookin' to his other side, at the newspaper-readin', burger-dislikin' woman, and grin at her right afore he took his first bite of his breakfast.
