Sir Edward couldn't believe it. He'd faced countless enemies out at sea, performed several feats of daring (and got his baronetcy for it).
And yet, he was getting the jitters simply because he was asking a woman out to dinner. He paced in his kitchen, stopping every now and again to adjust his tie, or brush specks off his suit jacket and trousers.
Oh come off it, man. he thought to himself. You've fought the French, damnit! After that, taking a woman out to dinner should be a piece of cake.
The doorbell rang, and Pellew started. Oh, come on. Can't keep her waiting now, see?
He sighed, and headed down the hallway.
