Title: Forever’s Never For Ever
Prompt: 4 times Yamada said they were JUST friends + 1 time they couldn’t
Pairing/Characters: Yamada x Yuto
Rating: Still PG. For a kiss. Hnh.
Wordcount: Still short. 665 words.
Notes: In which “forever” is really a changing value of time. And Yamada finds out that other people may be more perceptive than he would like them to be. Uh...I liked this at the time. I'm not super certain now. Some parts are written a little awkwardly...IT'S A SIGN OF MY GROWING MATURITY...*is shot*
.1.
“Friends forever?”
“Forever.”
A year ago, ‘forever’ had seemed a lot longer - and shorter - than it did now.
And so, when Yuto leans over (and oh god hisbody.hissmell.it’syuto.hisface.hiseyes), Yamada bites his lip and turns his head away.
“Friends forever?” he asks. Says.
Yuto tries to hide his disappointment. “Forever.”

In honor of Yamada not failing his math test miserably, Yuto elects to spend Saturday at his friend’s house. In the spirit of celebration, Yamada’s older sister brings up a bowl of strawberries for the two boys, pleased that her tutoring hadn’t gone to waste.
Before she turns to go downstairs, telling them to have fun, she catches the glance and flush that spreads across both their faces as their fingers touch when they both reach for the same berry.
Later, when Yuto’s gone, she questions her little brother about it.
“No!” Yamada struggles to keep his voice under control. “No,” he says again. “We’re just friends.”
She smiles secretively and nods. “Just friends?” Her little brother had a lot of learning to do.
As Yamada pounds back up the stairs, she kindly decides to tell him not to slam the door in place of informing him that his face is bright pink. Although what sort of shade he would turn at that is quite tempting…

When Yamada is at Yuto’s house a few weeks later to chill after a photo shoot, he idly flips through Yuto’s DVD collection. “Yamachan - Tantei Gakuen Q episodes one to three; Tantei Gakuen Q four to six; seven to nine; ten, eleven; Yamachan - Asia no Yoru, Perfume; Yamachan - Furuhatsu no Chuugakusen; Yamachan - Sensei wa Erai.” Pause. “This one’s labeled wrong.” He holds out the disc. “You, and Chii, and Daichan were in this one too.”
Yuto turns a light shade of pink and snatches it aside. “I know! It’s just…” Yuto trails off.
“That’s too many names?” Yuto nods mutely. “Yeah, that’s the problem with JUMP having 10 members, right?”
Yamada doesn’t bring it up again. Yuto tries to ignore how Yamada’s ignoring that every single DVD has his name - and only his name - on it. Yamada tries very hard to remember that they’re just friends.

The phone rings. “Moshi moshi?” Yamada hears his mother answer the phone downstairs. A moment later, she calls for him up the stairs. “Ryosuke, it’s for you,” she says.
“Who is it?” he asks, taking the stairs two at a time.
She shrugs and hands it to him. “Maybe it’s one of the Juniors?”
Yamada thinks for a moment - who could it be? - and answers the phone.
“Yamada-kun?” The voice on the other end is childish and sweet. “Do you and nii-chan like each other very much?” Yamada nearly drops the phone.
“No, I mean, yes, I mean, we’re really good friends!”
After he hangs up, he resolves to tell Yuto to never give his little brother his phone number ever again.

A year ago, forever seemed like a very long time.
Yuto leans over, pinning the older boy to the carpeted floor. His eyes are so-brown so-soft so-kind. His smell is so-sweet so-Yuto. His touch is so-gentle, so-tender.
“Friends forever,” Yamada tries to say, but for some reason he can’t.
As lips brush ever so softly against his, and fingers rake through his hair, Yamada thinks he knows why.
A moment later, looking into those same eyes, he hears Yuto’s voice, hoarse and throaty. “Forever ended a while ago.”
Yamada smiles - an angel’s smile - and just before he leans forward and kisses Yuto right back, he blows into Yuto’s ear. “No, forever just started.”
Half a beat, and Yuto finds himself inclined to agree.
