New Unprompted Fic - 1c indigo_angels February 10 2013, 17:31:20 UTC
Eddie, to give him his due, had tried to explain Face’s fugitive status to her, but her understanding seemed to have been a little compromised from the bullet in her brain as well. So, at regular intervals, every four to six weeks generally, Hannibal received a text or a call from Eddie asking, no pleading with him to try and get Face to visit his mother, telling him how hard Adele was finding his absence, how she cried and asked for him and wanted to know why he stayed away. Of course Eddie would never tell her the truth, he didn’t even know most of it, so Hannibal just kept putting him off, telling Face in a round-about way that she’d asked about him, and hoped the mess would somehow sort itself out.

Maybe it would have been better if they had let her know that they were coming, at least given Eddie a bit of a heads up so that he could have warned her, but they hadn’t, and so when she heard them in the door way, she turned and they all stood in silence for the four or five seconds it took her to realise who they were. Then she rose shakily to her feet, leaning heavily on the stick at her side, and reached a thin, quivering arm out to Face, tears already running down her paper-like cheeks and whispered, “Oh, Danny! My baby! You’ve come to see me at last!”

Hannibal hardly uttered a word in the whole hour they were there, but he watched Face with an aching heart as his wonderful boy slid straight from the role of abandoned, betrayed child, into solid, dependable carer without missing a beat. He watched Face’s tight, false smile as Adele, clinging tightly to his hand with her thin fingers, introduced him to every member of staff or patient that walked past her room. He watched as Face covered her with a blanket when she started shivering, helped her with her tablets when the orderly dropped them off for her, poured her coffee into a non-spill mug and arranged the tea of sandwiches and cakes onto the little table next to her chair. Then he’d watched as Face kissed her on the cheek and touched her hand before making his goodbyes and leaving with an apologetic glance at her tear filled eyes.

They left, as they arrived, in silence, and Hannibal drove with one eye on the still figure in the passenger seat next to him all the way back to the current team house. As soon as they arrived home, Face made his way to the bedroom and Hannibal followed him, glad he was there to hold him through the tears that wracked his body for the best part of the next hour, as Face realised that he may well have been left with a ‘better’ mother, someone who thought about him and wanted to spend time with him, but any chance he had of real answers, of finally understanding why - was now lost. As was the justification for all the hurt and anger that still burned hot within him; lost in Face’s view anyway, although certainly not in Hannibal’s.

Back in the present, Hannibal found Eddie sipping at his coffee, having not yet answered the question about Adele. While Hannibal still found he loathed her with an almost pathological level of hatred, and would never, ever forgive her for the ways she betrayed Face as an adult and a child, the thought that her health might deteriorate further terrified him, as he had no idea at all how Face would even begin to deal with losing her again.

Finally, Eddie put his cup down on the table top and looked up at Hannibal, the smug satisfaction in his expression easing the fears for Adele’s health. With a dramatic flourish, he reached under the table and brought up a tatty and battered shopping bag, laying it down before Hannibal and patting it fondly. “No,” he said, still ever so slightly out of breath after his walk, “I’ve found his father.”

Clap hands a sequel to A Mothers Love brilliant. I've read and read that several times and absolutely love it. Then to find a sequel in my inbox on a cold and wet Sunday brightened up my day!

Love how Adele has no memory on what happened but is so proud of her son showing of his picture and also Face himself when he finally goes to visit her. Also how Face is acts around her after everything that has happened and also Hannibal who as usual is there for his boy.

But now Eddie has found his father. Will wait with bated breath for the next part.

So glad you are reading this! :)

Isn't is typical how Adele always manages to come up smelling of roses??? She has the luck of the damned that woman!

And as usual Face and Hannibal are left having to adapt for her.

But yes, Eddie has found his father - or so he thinks!

I'm absolutely thrilled you are writing a sequel to 'A Mothers Love', and what a great start! Sounds like Face has had a tough few months, and to have Adele not remembering anything of her actions, just wondering why her son hasn't visited, well that's just awful for everyone involved. It's good to see Hannibal not wanting to lie to Face but still clearly protective of his boy. And how typical of Face to be the perfect son when he visits Adele, only to break down later.

And now Eddie thinks he's found Face's father?!? I can't wait to see where you take this!

Thank you! And I'm thrilled that you're thrilled!

Face has definitely had better years that's for sure, and Adele's memory issues have worked out well for her at any rate...

But yes - Eddie thinks he's found Face's father... I wonder what Face thinks of that!

First of all *icon love* for the new one.

That last sentence is a ticking time bomb! ;-) How's everybody going to reat?!!!

It was very interesting how everything had developed during the last year. The relationship with Adele, Face going to a therapist,
Hannibal never forgiving Adele.

The way you describe Eddie makes me feel really uneasy around him.

Thank you!!!

Ticking time bomb indeed! With everyone's emotions still so raw I wonder if Eddie has any idea what a can of worms he's opened!

Yeeeeeee a sequel totally bouncing up and down now…..

Oh Face trying to be so indifferent about what Eddie wants. I reckon maybe he wants to know but would much rather hear whatever it is from Hannibal. He trusts Hannibal ‘s judgement but now their relationship has grown, the trust is there now that Hannibal will not hold anything back or lie to him.

Umm, not sure that Hannibal should let go of his mistrust of Adele quite yet.

And the bombshell at the end, brilliant- thank you so much for writing a sequel :D

I'm so glad you are pleased to see this! :D

I was going to let you know when I started posting, but didn't want put you on the spot if you weren't bothered about reading!

It's not going to be anywhere near as long and twisty as A Mother's Love - but maybe not as controversial either (hopefully!) ;)

Thanks for reading!!!! :D

Sorry I was late starting to read. A Mother’s Love is my second favourite fic of yours and I am thrilled to see a sequel :) (the first still has to be Long And Winding Road but only just)

Oh it's totally fine - don't worry! I'm just thrilled that anyone reads ever.

It's funny hearing about favourites... I do like LAWR, and AML too, but my favourites tend to shift with my mood. I think at the minute it is Nowhere Man.

And of yours? Aftermath for sure ;)
