Old Friends and New Experiences

Today is the day. All the furniture, the baby clothes, everything for the nursery is coming today on the train from the plaza. It's been a long day for me, but I'm looking forward to seeing how things will look when we put them in the nursery. Pulling my cloak around me, I head towards the fountain where I find Ron waiting for me.

"Hi, luv," I say with a smile, giving him a kiss.

"Mmm," he murmurs. "H'lo. Good to see a smiling face for a change. Please tell me you'll never wear your hair in a ponytail again."

"Well, I can't guarantee what I will do with it after the baby comes, but I'll do my best. How's that?" I know Williamson wears his in a ponytail and I have a feeling that's the reason why he doesn't want me to.

"I can live with that," he says, standing as we start to walk toward the Floo fireplaces. "Just the thought of a ponytail coming at me's enough to ruin my day right quick, I reckon. We're Floo-ing to the Three Broomsticks, yeah? Or you too tired to come along?"

"No, I want to come to get our baby's things." Looking at my watch, I see that it's just after 5. "The train gets in around 7, right?" I ask as we reach the Floo. "We could have dinner while we wait."

"My stomach and I are all in favor of that. See you there in a minute." We've finally reached the front of the line and Ron steps aside to let me go first into the Floo.

Fifteen minutes later Ron and I are sitting at one of the tables in the Three Broomsticks, drinking our drinks and waiting for our food. "I think we have just about everything that we will need. Except, of course, the baby."

"Yeah, well, that, er, him, we don't want to bring out any too early, even if his mum is a bit mental about such things." He smirks at me and lifts his butterbeer bottle to take a swig.

I laugh and shake my head. "Trust me, I agree with you 100% on that. He should stay nice and safe where he is for now." I pat my stomach and smile at Ron. "You know, it won't be long before you are able to feel him move too."

"Really?" he asks, looking surprised. "I'll be able to feel him when he's still inside? And there's nothing wrong if that happens?"

I smile and put my hand over his. "Of course not. It just means that he's getting big enough so that you can feel him from the outside, that's all. Until now he's been too small."

Ron gets a slightly goofy grin on his face. "That's my boy. Growing. I can tell he's already good at that."

Madam Rosmerta brings our food, but for some reason she's not her usual cheerful self. It's hard to tell why that might be. I can tell Ron's noticed, too, but he tries not to pay her that much attention these days, and I know that's for my sake.

"I am really going nutters at work, Ron," I say with a sigh. "I won't know until after the holidays whether or not my project is approved or not. What if they don't approve it? What if I have to come up with something completely different? I really wanted to get that taken care of before Ryan arrives."

He scowls a bit. "You're not going to be worrying about that all through the holidays, now are you? Maybe I should work up a good Obliviate - about that anyway - and sneak it up on you when you're not looking."

"Right, selective Obliviation. You wouldn't do that, or else I might forget where I hid your Christmas present," I say with a wink. "Or I might forget to test my blood sugar, or worse yet wonder why I am so heavy because I forgot I am pregnant. I will try not to think about it, but I really wish I would know already."
