A day at the races

We scored some free tickets to the Black Opal Stakes from a friend of a parent. It was a lovely day out in the sunshine mingling with the star-spangled slappers and besuited mosh lobsters.

For me the most interesting aspect was the gambling. After studying the form guide I placed astute bets on five races, breaking roughly even, just missing out on a trifecta, but riding home to glory on a 10-1 each way bet that paid for all our festivities put together.

Overall it's been a pretty damn decent weekend. It occurred to both of us on Friday night just how much more relaxed life is in the immediate present than it has been for quite a while. For such a long time we've had so much to organise at any given time - slowing things down for a while is fantastic.

gambling, canberra, sport, banal raconteurism, social life, horses
