Situations

I came across a journal called Situations last night while browsing Political Theory Daily Review, and found a couple of interesting bits and pieces:
  • the journal manifesto which criticises the way that political theory has become subordinately harnessed to economic theory
  • an interesting discussion about the viability and necessity (or otherwise) of a new radical left party in the US
My reaction to the second article was sceptical, but that needs examination. Why are most people with progressive political desires so convinced that they can only fail or be reduced to inadequacy at the moment? What can be done about that if anything?

One interesting hobby horse these writers have is the problem of global climate change. Given the seriousness of that issue it's pleasant to see it getting coverage in this type of publication. At the least it implies that the words are actually connected to the underlying reality in some places.
