Ran is a wretched movie
Ran, the kanji means wretchedness or something like that. It also describes the feel of the movie. Well, the movie is kind of based on King Lear, kind of.
The characters are combined and/or split. Yes, there are characters that are both combined into one person and split into several people. Now that I think about it, I'm very hard pressed to think of a simple comparison between a chara from the play and a chara from the movie.
Instead of storms, there are battle scenes. There was one really windy scene but I don't really count that. The sky in several phases were also used as scene transitions. The first battle scene was very well done. Loads of bloodshed, even people shot with arrows and then burned too. I really remember when a line of ladies were automatically shot down.
Lady Kaede is the super bitch. She's more villain than all the other villains in the movie combined. She's Lady Macbeth (another play, but I'll make do), Goneril, Regan, Edmund, and probably a few more. She's a bitch, but Hidetora's quite a bastard. Understandably, Lady Kaede is pissed at him for taking her castle from her family. Bitch is pissed, and ends up taking down the whole family.
Hidetora burnt loads of castles. He also burned down Lady Sue's castle. The wanker also gouged out Tsurumaru's eyes. Hidetora also hit his jester and threw a pissy fit at Tango for telling the truth.
The jester, usually in Shakespeare's play, can make all the wisecracks in the world without offending people really. In Ran, the jester better watch his ass. People have their panties in a tight bunch and don't know how to take a joke. As usual, the jester is wiser than all the other morons combined.
Loads of animals. The old boar, bunnies, birds, and serphants.
I have a short attention span, but to my defense, the back cover lied! WTF?! 160 min?! Liars! I sat on my ass for like 4+ hours! And I can't fastforward at all so I had to rewatch several scenes just because the damn dvd went wonky!
And there's a spoiler pic on the back of the movie! WTF?! NEVER show dying people on the back cover!
And why I wrote all this? So I can remember what the hell to write for my paper later on.
