A protest

There were a couple guys outside the library today holding signs saying that Jesus can save homosexuals. If homosexuals turn to Jesus, they will become straight.

I envy that guys guts to be out on a pretty liberal college campus. I am also glad that guy was exercising his right to free speech and peaceful assembly. But I just don't share his opinion.

I was one of the first to see him, only one other guy was there arguing with him about the topic. They were really going at it. I sometimes wish that people would just leave protesters alone. He loves getting reactions out of people. The best thing to do is look at the sign, laugh and shake your head in amusement, and keep on walking.

Which is what I did. I had to go to the radio station to get ready for my show. About 15 minutes later Jeri came into the station with her camera. The guy that was arguing with the protester had made his own sign that said "This guy is an idiot" or something like that.

People at the station that were hanging around then left to go check out the situation. They were all making jokes about getting two guys to make out or at least grab each other's butts. I love the people at the station. It's so slashy.

After my show when I'm heading back to my dorm, the poor guy is still there, but surrounded by students. One student group, probably the Rainbow Pride Student Union, had a huge rainbow banner that about ten people were holding. I'm so proud of my campus for getting counter-protesters together so quickly.

Jeri took pictures, so I hope she puts those up on facebook and then I'll maybe put them up here.

In all honesty, I really love protesters. I love that part of America. I even love the ones who try to save homosexuals, in a way. You know what I mean. I don't like people trying to tell other people their opinions are wrong. I don't like it when one peaceful protester is provoked to a point of angry shouting. Opinions wont be changed by harsh words, fighting, and logic. What good is yelling at this guy going to do? Nothing. He won't ever change his mind unless he has some sort of experience that makes him see how wrong he is. (And please don't get me wrong, I don't like his opinions AT ALL...at least he wants to "save them" and not damn them all to hell like other people)

My questions for you all:
Are there protests like this that happen on your campus: A small handful of people attracts a large crowd of counter-protesters, a few of which who yell angrily at the original protesters? Do they bring fun rainbow banners?
Are you the kind of person to join the counter protest or just keep walking?
Do you belong to a group of lovely slashy people?
Does it make a difference that a person wants to save gay people instead of damning them straight to hell?
Don't you just love our rights to free speech and to peaceably assemble?

So yeah...that's my one big thing of today. I probably sound like a wimp or something, but I'm not, just a peaceful girl who loves America. And rainbows.
