and when we first came here-

CHARACTERS: Capa and Chase.
LOCATION: Passengers quarters.
WARNINGS: Social awkward and geekery.
SUMMARY: Capa asked Chase to keep an eye out for Cassie the day before. Apparently, she's still doing it.

It had been an error on his part, somehow. A miscalculation.

Behavioral sciences had never been his strong point - behavioral anything, really - but there were certain baseline levels of understanding that Capa thought he'd grasped. Granted, he never pushed at those baselines very hard to test their strength or capacity, but it had been wrong to assume they were still foregone conclusions here on Tranquility. The event anomaly had coughed up individuals from across the multiverse and all observational data yielded a wide spectrum of both biological make-up and social context. The norms of his specific point of view could not be applied across the board without resulting miscommunication or conflict.

The fact that Chase had taken his request of a favor far too literally was not the later but most certainly the former. As Capa hurried his way from his personal quarters to the lifts that came from the Medbay, he tried to determine where the error lay. Was it something specific to being a soldier - that is what Chase had designated herself as, initially. Was it a social expectation of her particular thread in time-space. Or was it something inherent in being a child. Capa knew he hadn't been a particularly normal one, so his perspective on the matter was skewed beyond pale. But then again, Chase wasn't a normal child either, at least not by his standards.

He'd just have to ask her, that was the only way to be clear.

As he rounded the corner to the long corridor that terminated at the lifts, Capa caught sight of the girl and lifted his voice just barely enough to carry from himself down to her.

"Chase."
