[ It takes some time and positioning, but he finally gets the com-device to where he wants it before double-checking that he's posting to the network at large.

The video starts and others will be able to see a small, blonde man settled in a chair, brows furrowed with a hint of mild concern. ]Right, yes, hello ( Read more... )

I don't suppose you're familiar with where they might be keeping all forms of painkillers and such like, are you? [ Then a little more facetiously, just Because: ] Courtesy of a medical sixth sense, maybe, or something like that.

[ Does Oxford still have a headache? Yes. Is he starting to sound like a bit of an addict? A little, but it's really a very persistent ailment. ]

There are some cabinets in the medbay that were locked before - I assume to keep civilians from taking what they please. I'm willing to bet there's something there.

May I ask what you need them for? Headache?

Wonderful. That's quite possibly the best news I've heard since I arrived here.

Yes, a headache. [ A pause, and he touches the side of his head briefly, though discomfort is visible on his face. ] I don't believe space agrees with me.

[ A very small smile. ] I don't believe you're the only one with that problem.

Alright. My advice to you would be to go and drink a large glass of water. You'd be surprised how many headaches are caused from dehydration.

Instead of rubbing the side of your head, try massaging the back of your neck and the base of your skull. [ John lifts a hand to touch the particular area. He looks expectant to see you do the same. ]

Believe me, dehydration is not the cause of this headache.

[ A little sceptical, Oxford raises a brow but obligingly moves his hand to the back of his head. ]

I can't claim to be very well versed in medicine or anatomy or anything along those lines - and one certainly can't argue with twenty years of experience - but will it really help to address the problem here- [ meaning the back of his head ] -when the pain is there? [ He gestures with his other hand to his forehead. ]

Can't hurt to try, can it? Just rub at it a little, gently.

Do hands move because they're separate entities, or because they're wired to nerves that connect to the brain? If a person only takes a knock to the spine, why does the body below the damage become paralyzed?

[ Oxford looks faintly grumpy, but it's not at John, it's just residual annoyance with the general situation and the headache. He nods to acknowledge the point, sounding only a little exasperated. ]

Alright, I take your point.

[ John can sort of sense the other's been like this for a while, and it's clear enough that his irritation is for the world at large. He hasn't been rude to John, so the doctor will continue on in a tone he's perfected over the years, like the advice of one good friend to another. ]

You might also try a hot shower. Usually works to clear the head - good cold reliever too.

Get some rest, when you can. If your problem persists, give me a call and I'll see what I can't do, alright?

I'll take these suggestions into consideration. [ For a moment, he considers discussing the fact that this is not a conventional headache, given that it's a result of his telepathy (amongst other things). After all, this entire message alone covers only a section of the oddities that are present on this ship, and Oxford doubts telepathy is the most surprising of them all. He decides, however, that it'll be a story for another day. ] Thank for you for your advice, Dr. Watson.

[ You're really not, are you? Suit yourself, mate. ]

Ah, well. The best advice is on the pillow now. Take care.

[ English goodbyes, the etiquette is you hang up, Oxford. ]
