So, yesterday was my last day of work.
They brought in a card (which is sort of expected). But they also got together and ordered Chinese for lunch, and everyone who was off for the day came in to have lunch and say goodbye. That was really nice.
But the kicker, the one that brought me to tears of both laughter and sadness, was the joke they played on me this morning. One of our main duties in the morning is to listen to all of the messages from reps calling off sick. We listen, mark the rep absent, and forward the message to the correct department (and explain how this absence will affect them.)
Usually there are about 5 messages when I come in at 6am. Yesterday there were 19.
Most of them were from my coworkers.
But they weren't just calling to wish me luck. They each called pretending to be someone whose messages always made us laugh.
There was the chick who couldn't remember what account she worked for, or if she actually worked today, or anything else helpful.
There was the guy who quit over the phone because Jesus told him to, but wished us all a very merry Christmas, a wonderful Hannukah and a kick ass Kwanzaa.
There was the girl who always calls off because of the pain in her bum. "So sore..."
There was the guy who called off and detailed how bad the diarrhea smelled and how long it's been going on.
There was the guy who called off because of all of the DRAMA happening in his life.
There was the girl who called off, repeating her name over and over and over and over in the same message, like a broken record.
There was the guy who called to say he'd be late because he had to get his hair cut... but then he called back because he fell back asleep and decided not to come in after all.
By the time I was done listening to them, I was laughing so hard and tears were running down my face.
...
I am not going to miss the job or the company.
I am, however, going to miss the people.
work,
goodbye
