Happy Solstice!

It's finally there! The longest night of the year. Whee! Thank God/Eru/whatever-higher-power-you-believe-in that from tomorrow on the days will be longer again (unless you're living somewhere in the Southern hemisphere, that is)! And yes, I obviously love this day. I have even started writing a Caranthir/Haleth winter solstice fic. Which will most ( Read more... )

... that amazingly adaptable bearskin rug...

Hehe, that's good. :-)

I have only encountered one problem, and that is the fact that regarding the timeline of "What Remains Untold", those two would actually never have been able to spend winter solstice together. Here I was, looking forward to writing about them spending the year's longest night together until I realized that the first they meet it is autumn and Haleth leaves before it's winter. Some years later Caranthir comes to Estolad in early spring and stays, well, let's say a few weeks. So I can't have them be together. *sniff*

I actually thought of writing about the last solstice before they meet again and let them have some recollections of being all naked and... err, yes. ;-) Is it just me or do they often run around naked in my stories? When I think of it I somehow even pictured Haleth's ghost as being naked, hehe. *kicks her inner nudist*

Concerning the genre, I was aiming for "bittersweet". I don't want to get all angsty this time - now that the days are getting brighter. :-) But there must be a bearskin rug. Can't write about winter solstice without a bearskin rug. ;-)

Ah, well, the timeline... I guess that can't be fixed, can it?

I fear it can't. It would overthrow everything I established with my former stories. ;-(

A you're-not-here-but-I'm-thinking-of-you-and-missing-you-on-the-longest-night-of-the-year fic was exactly what I was thinking about. :-)
