Japanese and other languages
Kawaii! Kakui! Gomenasai! Daijobu! Yes yes, I understand. You have the average capabilities of picking words up when you watch anime. I get it! Leave it alone! At least, that's how I feel when I read fanfiction and see bits in Japanese.
Actually it doesn't bother me that much. I can stand the occasional gomenasai and ano and daijobu (actually kawaii and kakui piss me off because my god, when people say it, it's usually out of character.)
But then there are those people who put WHOLE PHRASES in... Why? Then they have to put translations of the side. It honestly just frustrates me. Do people really think that I'll be impressed by their show of Japanese. Actually I find it rather distracting from the story, especially when I have to scroll all the way down just to know what the fuck they said.
Of course, there are exceptions. I imagine if the atmosphere was distinctly Japanese, the language would be welcome (though I still firmly believe that the whole damn phrase should never be in Japanese). In KHR, I see a good bit of Italian. Honestly Italian doesn't bother me as much. Also writers don't tend to put in the Italian needlessly.
Which reminds me a lot of KHR's titles are in Italian. Which then reminds me that a lot of fanfiction have titles in Japanese. Katakana or kanji to be exact.
...why?
Like seriously, why? I mean romanji's cool, but katakana or kanji? For the love of god people, when I want to tell people how good (or bad) your fanfic is, what am I supposed to say? That one with the Japanese script. Geez, I'm sorry that most of us can't turn on the translation dictionary in our heads and automatically sound out what that title says. Also how does anyone glean anything from that kind of title? My god, you might as well as say untitled as far as I'm concerned.
On a totally different topic, spelling... Occasional spelling mistakes are okay. I mean, no one's perfect. I certainly don't have spelling mistake free pieces of work. But then there are things you simply should not misspell...continuously. Character's name for example. I'm sorry, Narutards, Hyugga is not how you spell that name. When I have to go through 10,000 words of Hyugga, I don't. I quit. If a writer doesn't put enough effort to see how a name is written, why should I believe they put any effort into the story? Harsh I know, but certainly true. And you try to go through 10,000 words of Hyugga or Sauske. Like really, that's sad.
