Why do middle names usually follow the gender of the first name. Meaning, a girl usually has a middle name that is girly, or whatever the word is. And the other way around is also true, guys have guy like middle names that are not feminine. Like my sister could not be called Christina George Day.

Is this a rule or just something that people have accepted over time? For I cannot think of anybody that breaks this custom.
