We can't have a monthly challenge go by without being answered! So, here is a little snippet. Not much, just a drabbly sort of thing.

Monthly Challenge 7: Last Words
"I have to go. It's my duty," the other man says and in that moment, Jack hates the word and everything it stands for. He hates that it is his duty to order people into a war that will kill them. Hates how it's taking people away from him. Now it's taking away this man too. He barely knows him, but there is something about him, something that he doesn't want to lose.
To hell with duty, Jack thinks, and then doesn't do or say anything after all.
Instead he watches the other man turn and walk towards the light.
But he doesn't say a word. Not when he turns around and comes back again. Not when they kiss. And not a word when he leaves. All Jack does is watch.
Duty, he thinks, it'll make corpses of us all.
And he salutes.
