Captain Jack Harkness made his way out of the heated air of the Ritz dancehall and into the cold September night. In escaping the scalding hostility of those left in the room, Jack couldn’t help but feel that he’d also left any lingering warmth from Captain Harper behind. Those few idyllic moments replayed in his mind as he wandered the Cardiff streets.

Dancing with James had been a fairy tale, a perfect moment when prince met prince and they fell in love and walked hand in hand in the light of day.

But writing “The End” doesn’t mean that a story is over. Life moves on, inattentive to a supposed happy ending. A strange light and a sense of duty take one of the princes away, leaving the other to face the consequences of impulsive love alone.

“Damn it,” Jack whispered to the indifferent night air, “Damn it all to hell.” Cursing the man who had told him to live tonight like his last and then left him to face tomorrow by himself, Captain Jack Harkness returned to his quarters and went to bed alone.
