i am fascinated.

oil paint is able to absorb more pigment than acrylic because linseed oil has a smaller molecule than acrylic.
oil has a different refractive index than acrylic dispersions.
this changes how light interacts with the paint films.

so basically, while acrylic paint stops light dead when it reaches the painting,
oil paint allows light to pass through it, reflect off of the back of the canvas, and back at the viewer.
that's why some paintings look like they're lit from behind, or give off this glow that you can't explain.
instead of being shone on, it shines back.

i hope i'm an oil painting, and not an acrylic painting.
if this is making sense.
i am a mess.
