I'm a bit of a geek.
Last week when I was at the mall for my lunch break (Subway, eat fresh!) I passed a Hallmark Christmas ornament display on my way out and was delighted to see a Star Trek The Next Generation Enterprise ornament. Just now I remembered it, and decided to see if there were any for cheap on eBay. I discovered there's a Future Enterprise one. From the final episode! The one with a third warp drive! The one that totally blows the crap out of a Klingon ship! Yay!
Now why am I so excited about it? Well, I want to start building up a collection of ornaments for a Space & Time Travel tree. I already started on my Phantom of the Opera tree a couple years ago, and have been planning a Labyrinth tree... why not throw in an even crazier one? It will have star-like little white LED lights, planet and moon looking ball ornaments, iridescent ribbony garland and every spaceship and time traveling thing I can think of from shows, movies, comics, and whatnot that I like. I plan on making a Tardis out of wood, with lights and sound. (The commercial ones I've found so far look cheap... and they're the 11th Doctor version. I like the 9th/10th Doctor version better. Yes, there is a difference. :) I'm picky. ) I'll get the little Hot Wheels edition of the Delorean, and add some spiraly fire trails behind the wheels just for fun. Heck, I even plan on making Bill and Ted's phone booth. And maybe some time when I'm feeling particulary crazy I'll make my own version of the H.G. Wells Time Machine... because models of that thing are just too dang expensive.
Now... the problem with the Hallmark Star Trek ornaments is they're... plastic, and very obviously so. I would actually like my geeky tree to be a little more on the classy fancy side. Bill and Ted's phone booth, for example, may very well be a stained glass version. The keychain of Serenity that I want to get is nice shiny silvery metal, so all it needs is a repositioned hanging loop. I don't really want a chunk of dull white plastic hanging next to all my pretty sparkly glass and metal stuff... even if it is highly detailed dull white plastic with working lights.
Maybe I can silver leaf it or something...
