Here's Boston part of my trip in a nutshell now that I've had a moment to breathe.
Love BOSTON, absolutely love it. Jason lives in a cool ass part of town and showed me around his digs. Rode the train, got a whole bunch of coffee, ate at Cheers, (yes that Cheers) and drank GREAT beer! His school seems really sweet as well.
Earlier that day I hung out with an old friend named Lindsey. We drove past Fenway Park and I have now seen "the green monster" with my own eyes! She gave me a tour of The Boston Globe, where her father works and then it was off to the famous Boston Duck Tour. By land and by sea we conquered all the historic sites of the city and I had a chance to catch up with Linds on how life is going for her now.
We all later met up at Wally's Cafe, a crazy little, hole-in-the-wall jazz club. That was one of the coolest experiences I've had in a long time. The place was hard to find and seemed to be a casual hang out for student and professor alike from the neighboring Berklee College of Music. Those of you not familiar with the school, it is possibly the most prestigious music school in the country. John Mayer attended. Enough said.
My buddy James' band, "Six Figures" threw down a killer Jazz-Fusion set that blew me away. Not only have I not seen James in about four years, I have not heard him play sax with his new group. Every musician in his group was beyond their years in terms of talent and should be famous for what they are able to accomplish musically. I want to play drums for a Jazz outfit in the worst way now.
I don't think I could have asked for a better birthday even though the day was really not about that. It was just that good to meet up with some of the people you consider to be the most genuine you know. I miss the city and the experience already. I am very lucky to have some of the best friends a guy could ask for and I hope I never take that for granted.
