Long time. No time to really write this. Only writing because I should, of course, be doing something else (namely, packing for 4 days in New York). Busy busy. Grad school applications looming on the horizon (terrifying). Probably applying to the following

I'm probably MUCH more likely to get into Wagner's MPA program for Nonprofit Management and Policy since I work for a nonprofit as it is and generally have the right background for it...
But for all the feel-good-ness of nonprofit work, I'm also really broke all the time. I definitely wouldn't mind it were the pay significantly better, but I think an MBA would be an all-around more useful/profitable thing to have, regardless of what field I end up in. I liked doing PR work for the most part too, so long as the clients were interesting. I want to focus on Marketing and Media & Entertainment Management (specifically publishing, and both NYU and Fordham have a class or two in their Media Management concentrations that focus soley on publishing).
Somewhere in the back of my brain is a little fantasy of running some small aspect of a marketing department for some publishing house.
Honestly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if I end up at Fordham. My GPA is on par with Stern's average for incoming MBA students, but I'll only have 3 years of work experience, while their average for last year's entering class was 4.5 years. And honestly, I think I'll do swimmingly on the GMAT's verbal sections, but the math is going to ruin me. I haven't had a math class since, oh, Math for Liberal Arts Majors freshman year. Like, really, if I could somehow swing a decent math score on the GMAT I might stand a fighting chance, but yeah. It's really unlikely. :(
But, like I said. I'll apply regardless. Worth a shot. Mreh.
...though now that I'm looking at the Wagner site they DO offer a joint MPA and MBA program that can be done in three years... but you have to be admitted to both schools separately, so I'm back in the same boat of probably not being able to get into Stern. :(
Thinking I should apply to CUNY as a backup, but idk if it's worth considering. :\

But I don't want to count on it, either. Ugh. I am spending my entire train ride tomorrow studying math I should remember from freshman year but have entirely forgotten. :(

I'm stressed as hell and I haven't even begun the actual application process yet. UGH.

fordham is a good school but the bronx campus is in a shitty area and the student body is overall unimpressive. i applied as an undergrad cuz i loved their radio station & i was so disappointed when i visited that i didn't go. but grad school is a different game i'm sure.
i really think you should go for wagner at NYU. it's way less competitive than Stern - hell, you could apply to both separately - and i think that they offer programs similar to what you want to do. if you want i could get in touch with my old roommate & ask if she knows of similar programs, but we didn't part on great terms & i'm not sure if she'd help me out.

because of her and someone who left my program to go to Wagner's MPA in nonprofit management i have a positive impression of the school, its placement, and the people who go there. WAY more positive than i think of just about any business school. as i tell all the slobbering undergrads who think getting into IU's kelley is the cash cow happily ever after of their existence that JP morgan didn't go to B school. Cornelius Vanderbilt didn't go to B school. It took Warren Buffet 3 tries to find one he liked & even he thought he knew more than his professors.
they never listen.
