Went to Florida with Jian the other week for Anna's wedding and to spend some time playing in my hometown.
Seanbell was kind enough to pick us up from the airport on Friday and drive us up to Gainesville for the wedding! Unexpectedly, both Jian and I and Seanbell wound up with rooms to stay in at the site of the wedding -- an old mansion in Micanopy (built circa 1845) that night. The boys wandered through town a bit while I took part in the rehearsal, we reconvened for dinner, and then split ways while I spent most of the night with Anna and the other bridesmaids (champagne, group bubble bath, tying satchels of birdseed for the following evening-- typical pre-wedding shenanigans, I'd imagine). Practically drug myself, exhausted, back to our room in the wee hours of the morning.
Of the bridesmaids-- all right around my ripe old age of 23-- I was the only lady to whom one or several of the following did NOT apply:
a.) married
b.) engaged
c.) house owner
I am not sure how I feel about this fact.
The wedding took place Saturday evening, though I spent a good part of Saturday afternoon in preparation. Split ways with Sean and Jian after lunch and didn't see much of them until the ceremony. Cried at the ceremony (typical). Took a carriage ride with Jian. Was dragged momentarily onto the dancefloor by Seanbell who insisted I dance to Bob Marley with him. Apparently "
pulled a Daria" at the bouquet toss, according to J. Overall, a really nice affair -- right at that perfect level of "wedding-ness" without being ueber formal or ueber casual, and I think everyone had a good time. Pretty excited to see the professional photos as well!
Headed back to Orlando that night, passed out on the futon after several rounds of Street Fighter 4 at Kevin's house. Jimmy was in town as well, and we spent the rest of our vacation largely with him, eating italian ice, laying around on the beach, doing a little shopping, introducing the beau to old friends, and dancing and boozing Monday night until the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Back in the District (or thereabouts) as of midway through last week. Lis came down from Manhattan for this weekend past, so we went out to dance to some old school hip hop with her and her sister and Al on Friday, and trekked out to Virginia to see the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where I found out my boyfriend is apparently a big nerd about planes. Adorable. Saturday night I felt sad and J. was starting to get sick, so we stayed in and watched mostly bad tv and then some Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Words cannot describe the level of *squee* at receiving a "Jon and Kate is on!!" text message from one's beau several days later. Seriously. *SQUEE*.
Work is sort of kicking my ass lately, what with our Donor Appreciation Event this Thursday night and our big Gala fundraiser coming up in May. There's just never enough time to get everything done. Hoping things wind down a bit post-Gala; there's a lot to be done on the Marketing front that I simply don't have time for since I'm spending 99% of my day helping out with development efforts. Spoke with my Marketing Boss (I actually work for three people -- the executive director, the development director, and the marketing associate) a bit while I was working on Sunday morning and we agreed to push some ideas we've got re: marketing over the summer once the Gala is over and done with. Whew. Also, Argentine Tango classes are starting up at work (for those not in the know, I work for a nonprofit community arts center) next week and I am pretty seriously considering taking them-- I get a pretty nice discount on classes at work and have yet to take advantage of it. Hm.
