My Sheppard/SGA fic philosophy

My SGA fic philosophy is this: there's a lot of great fan fiction out there featuring John Sheppard but very few that capture the soul of an essentially unknowable man. I think Sheppard's opacity, secretiveness and ability to project to each person the Sheppard they want or need him to be is what makes him such a popular subject for fan fic. The hotness doesn't hurt (grin). Still... the John Sheppard in the recommended stories rings the most true even if I don't necessarily like or see the pairing.
While the vast majority of fans inexplicably seem to prefer to read about Rodney and John's friendship or as more than friends, I ONLY see them as two needling, teasing, competitive, brotherly friends. McShep feels like incest (not my kink, sorry). Their friendship was frankly overplayed and over-featured on the show. I don't need to read it too. I also think a lot of people write their characterization wrong since they two of THE MOST STRAIGHT guys ever. I also don't think nor did canon ever show either confiding in the other; they're close friends but friends in a limited context, i.e. "bros."
I immediately saw and understood the strong and instantaneous connection between John and Teyla. The best friends and the people I have been closest to my life are those whom I felt like I had known and trusted forever from first meeting. I see John and Teyla as having that kind of friendship. They confide in each other even though both are intensely private and reserved people; they communicate volumes in a single look. They are loyal beyond death, will overcome any obstacle for each other and have the utmost respect for each other as leaders and warriors.
I love to read stories about John and Teyla as friends or friends and more (because that chemistry is electric and cannot be denied). I also like other pairings and anything about the Atlantis marines, military or Lorne. However, from time to time, I stumble on other interesting gems due to my voracious fic appetite.
