mags/zines

i have recently started buying magazines again and after a couple of days, i quickly began to realise that the main reason i stopped buying them in the first place (aside from saving money) is because there's just hardly any magazines on the market for me - not since the untimely demise of terraplanet's finest publications Juice and HQ, anyway ( Read more... )

the main reason why i don't really buy magazines much lately is because I have, well ... you're using it.

It's only if something like Rolling Stone has some kind of Special Edition or a report on something that piques my interest. Otherwise, there's blogs that I can find the info before the mag comes out.

Occasionally I get my super-geek on and buy a New Scientist, but that's very rare

i used to buy rolling stone religiously! but it doesn't really interest me that much anymore.

i miss HQ so much. it was the perfect mag for me - music, art, politics and subculture. sigh.

it was one of the terraplanet pubs (where Juice and Esky were born).. i guess its similar to what Frankie is in a way (though less female oriented, i think).

Have you ever seen Dumbo Feather, Pass it On...?? I think it comes out every 2 months or so!

P.S. It's been like ages since I've been on LJ :)

I love Frankie and Ben Law. He's one of my favourite things about it. But that doesn't really help you.

Parcell Press has some really, really great zines: http://www.parcellpress.com/shopfront/zineshop.htm

Otherwise, do a search for community zine fairs. There must be HEAPS of them in Sydney.

there's still a few copies of 'Invisibly Ever After', which was my zine from 1999-2003 floating around ... unfortunately they're all in a box in my parents' house on the other side of the world at the moment. (wasn't much of a zine to be honest, just drawing, typography, GA layout and incidental observations wedged somewhere in there where they wouldn't do any harm).

I do still have all the layouts and drawings scanned on one of my hard drives though, if not having hand-drawn and xeroxed physical entities aren't an issue for you ; ).

i never knew you produced a zine :) i always loved reading friend's zines. there were quite a few perzines floating around a few years ago which were pretty interesting.

you should archive them all and put them on the web. i hear webzines are the new 'thing' these days :P
