Shane had surgery yesterday...

Hi everybody.  I'm just updating to let you all know that Shane had to undergo surgery yesterday to get his spleen removed.  He also needed a larger chest tube for the fluid in his chest, a stomach tube that goes out his nose (it's not comfortable), and they put a central line under his collar bone, as well (so they don't have to keep poking him).  He went in at noon yesterday.  He was in surgery for 2 hours, but he was in recovery for a very long time because he was in a great deal of pain.  He even asked if we could hear him screaming down the hall.  What happened is that he had been taking Loritab (a pain medication) since the accident.  Apparently, the body rejects morphine if you had been taking Loritab.  For this reason, on his pain scale of a 1 to 10 yesterday, it was higher than a 14.  However, they were able to finally get the pain under control, and he was finally able to get out of recovery to the ICU at about 6:00 last night.

He is still in the ICU, unfortunately, so I can only see him for four 30-minute intervals a day.  He's on a morphine pump that he gets to push the button for every 7 minutes to give him 2 mg.  Hopefully he will be moved to a room by tomorrow with all his many tubes, though.  They said that if all goes well that he'll be out of the hospital by Christmas (cross your fingers).  So that's the story so far.  Please continue to pray.  Thank you all!
