I was walking through Carlton Gardens to get to class earlier today. It was almost 20 years ago that I shot my portfolio music video in an attempt to get into the VCA (Victorian College of Arts). Even though VCA did not eventuate, it was hell of a fun making the video together with my classmates. Cheesy girl-steals-best-friend's-boyfriend-drama backed by 90s pop ballad. I ended up at RMIT of course, and my life would not have been the same if I didn't meet some of my closest friends there. Would I have continued in the creative arts if I'd been admitted into VCA? Such heavy questions...
Oh yes, what I really wanted to mention was that as I strolled through the Gardens, two parents were happily feeding some ducks at the pond with their kid. It immediately conjured warm, fuzzy images of my childhood days when my folks would take me and my baby brother to East Coast Park to feed the fishes at the pond. We'd be so excited, breaking up the little pieces of soft, unbranded bread from the local bakery. Squealing with delight, we sprinkled the breadcrumbs into the pond as the fishes devoured them voraciously. An occasional tortoise would join the party and we'd point to it as if it was the most fascinating thing ever. Simple pleasures.
