I'm back.

Meredith is leaving early tomorrow morning, returning to Rochester.
While she was in Europe, I:
-went to the spice-shop in Paris that Alain Ducasse patronizes, where I acquired a gram of saffron (it's like cocaine, but it's strictly good for you. Truly, though, the spice-seller takes it out of a locked cabinet behind the counter and sells it in grams. The experience was thrilling.) I also bought the most wonderful Indian and Egyptian spice blends.
-paid homage to Shakespeare and Company
-bought tea from Mariages Frères, drank tea at Ladurée
-drank the oldest bottle of wine I've ever had (embarassingly, that's a mere 10 years. It was a delicious white from Jura, best served almost-room temperature.)
-lost faith in the Köln jazz scene
-fallen asleep at the opera, then enjoyed thoroughly a highly-derivative Stravinsky's Oedipus afflicted with the "Sledgehammer of Symbolism" sydrome
-had an outlandishly good meal this evening at a wonderful little restaurant by the University

Tonight I shall, finally, watch Helvetica. And show Meri Pola X.

ADDENDUM 0:45 11.1.09
another 2 things to add to the list:
-I listened to Brel's "Bruxelles" while traveling through Brussels on a train.
-I cooked a brilliant fish stew.
So you can understand if I feel like I've accomplished something grand in these last few days. Nevermind the performances I gave while home, or the auditions and other jobs I have lined up for the next few months.
