I recently answered the call for regional poets to submit their work for publication in the locally owned paper the Weekly Reader. It is a paper that goes out all across northern Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin. I've been a little gunshy since the poetry.com scam/fiasco I got myself into, but thought I will never be confident in submitting my work until I just do it. So I did. The prompt response I recieved from the editor informed me that they will be running two of my poems, which I think is great. This is the first time I have had my work published.
Northern Bound
Cold wind blowing hard
On the day we want to leave
To breathe country air
Driving down the road
Crusin' past fields of tall grass
Sun shines down on her
It breaks through the clouds
Trees are greener in the sun
Her eyes are bluer
I've longed for today
To be on the road with her
Driving northern bound
Untitled
Each and every day
Scared folks over
Seas put on the bravest faces
For those back home
Before the convoy heads out
Across blood soaked sand
Littered with dead and shattered lives-
The revolution engulfs the hearts
Of those who understand
Love it or leave it but
Remember an America that
Wasn't plagued by personal agendas
Not swayed by men's dirty money
An America that stood
Up for personal liberties-
Even though there may not be a way out
Of a war with no exits
There is a way
To get rid of the root of the problem
The solution is in the hearts
Of those who have been hurt-
In the determination of the strong
Men and women left here
With worried families and tight finances
Waking each day with the fear
They may never hold true love again.
