Player
Name: [Pretty standard. The name you want to go by in the game.]
Personal LJ: [Also standard! If you don't have an LJ, that's fine. If you already know the journal you want to use for the character you're apping, you can put that here instead.]
Contact Information: [More standard! But we do make one request here and it is a rule. Namely, please have some form of public contact. The locked game contact page will list whatever your prefer but for people outside the game who may want to get a hold of you for apping purposes, we require some form of public contact info. This could be PM, an HMD, a contact post or anything that should be easy for anyone to use. Please note what your public contact will be. It doesn't have to be separate but the more ways to contact someone, the better.]
Timezone: [Even more standard!]
Other Characters in Game: [And I get to say standard again. First time appers can just leave this blank or put 'N/A' or whatever you prefer.]
Character
Name: [The character's name! Any aliases or preferred names and so on can also go here if you want. The first one listed we'll assume is the name they go by most and use for tagging the character's entries.]
Fandom: [Name that fandom! We'll use this for entry tagging purposes as well.]
Type: [Here you mark down if they're original verse, an alternate or an emerald version. You don't have to explain anything yet. If you're apping into an established alternate universe with other players, do note that here and give us a heads up that you already got permission.]
Age: [We know things can be complex, so give details here if needed. If they're 3,000 chronologically with the appearance of a 16-year-old, then mention that here. If it's as simple as '25' then go ahead and put that. Also note mental age if it's important.]
Gender: [Another one that can be complex. Again, if it's a simple answer, then go ahead and put it down. If it requires some explaining, then here's where you do that.]
Species: [What it says on the tin. If it needs explaining beyond 'human, cyborg, Vulcan, elf, Andalite, whatever, then go ahead and explain.]
Appearance: [Just linking a picture or two would be fine here. If you want to describe the character in addition to that, then you can, but if you can provide a picture then do so. If your character has no pictures then describing is a must.]
Canon Used: [Here's a section for you to shove canon at us and also tell us what you're using. If you're only using the book version of your canon and not the movie, then say so here. If you're using the anime, put that down. If you're also pulling from interviews with the creator or some spin-off novels or something, tell us that, too.
After that, we want links. This is to the advantage of us both. It helps us as mods know what to look for and allows you to find the resources that you feel are best to look at. Fandom wikis can be notoriously bad or abandoned and incomplete. Please, don't be afraid to overshare here. If there are episodes you feel show your character best and you know where to watch/find them, go ahead and give us that. If there's passages you happen to have typed up from the book - or don't mind typing up - then link us to those, too. We're pretty willing to research as needed and especially if your character is minor, it might take us a while on our own to find and look at things for them. So when it comes to this section, there's no such thing as too much. We'll still look around on our own but we want you to point us at the best information.]
Psychology: [A key section and one we're going to be looking closely at! What makes this character tick? Strengths, weaknesses, flaws, loves, good traits and bad ones, habits and personality, any and all details that are important and make up this character. Don't be afraid to talk as much as you want. If you're good at being concise and covering everything that way, that's good! If not, then go ahead and roll out the words.]
Key Events: [If you're playing a basic fandom character, this section shouldn't be too intimidating. Rather than a history - which you can link in the 'canon used' section - what we want here are the events that shape not only the character but most importantly shaped how you play them. Most characters have key points in their story that mattered and some of those might be subtle or seem less important than you, personally, think they are. List them here and describe them a bit so that we understand why you see it as important. Some of them might be obvious, like parents being murdered, starting a path towards revenge. But maybe some moment really caught your eye, a conversation or small gesture, that showed how much the character has changed or the type of person they are.
Headcanon also goes here and if you're playing a minor character, might be especially abundant. Please do, however, mark headcanon differently somehow, so that the mods and players will know that it's headcanon. We recommend asterisks if you do this section in list form but as long as there's a clear indication, then anything is fine.
If you're playing an alternate version, then we need you to explain clearly what is different about them and how this has effected them and changed their life. An alternate should be a recognisable 'what if' of the character in question while still being distinct. The same basic rules as above apply but we'll probably need more depth. Please make sure your histories line-up with anyone else playing in the same alternate verse. We will allow for handwaving and retconning if needed to fit in new players as long as you run it by us first.
For emerald versions and original characters, we'll need pretty much full histories. You can leave out boring/unimportant bits but anything of importance absolutely must be here. Especially for original characters, we can't look up details and double-check so please have all your bases covered.]
Welfare Assessment: [Because of the environment of the game, we want you to consider how your character will handle it carefully. This doesn't have to be set in stone and we all know well how unexpected things happen once in game but try to give your best guess. Sanity Effects should be measured based on
☇ lucidity - how much hallucinations, nightmares, horrors and the like effect them
☇ stability - the ability or inability to generally carry on without having major breakdowns or cracking
☇ normalcy - general behaviour patterns on fitting in or standing out and how well they can resist falling into unusual temptations and keep in line - whatever that might mean for them
Here you should also consider the time period and how that might worsen the character's condition. Will the lack of modern conveniences be distressing? Will the character seem likely to run themselves ragged trying to help or fight? Will the less than ideal weather and air pollution cause them to get sick often? These are just some things to consider.]
Arrival Choice: [You don't have to use the names but tell us how you're choosing to have your character arrive. If you're doing a method different from any suggested, note that here. Also, if you're doing any methods that require permission from other players, make sure you have that first.]
Skills, Abilities & Weaknesses: [This section should be standard to most people. List and describe your characters abilities. Things like magic, exceptional swordsmanship - or even crappy swordsmanship - engineering, math genius abilities, super good at cooking, anything that might be good to know and something your character demonstrates a skill for. This is also where important weaknesses go, if say your character is deathly allergic to certain rocks. It's a skill of sorts.]
Unique World Traits: [This section serves two purposes. One is to list off any items your character has brought with them. Depending on how willing or unwilling their arrival is, this might vary a lot. Try not to go too overboard. No one is going to allow them to pack up their city but a few bags won't hurt. They may bring pets or sidekick mascots on the condition that those things cannot be apped by themselves. For example, Appa from Avatar The Last Airbender may have a clear personality but couldn't be apped as a character on his own.
Secondly, this section allows you to contribute to the game by bringing something from the character's world. Perhaps there's a monster you think would work well in the setting that you want to start appearing. Or maybe in your character's world, magic only works thanks to the existence of certain particles, which can now be found here. Again, we will judge this and ask to tone it down or pick something different if it's too much but it doesn't hurt to ask us. What you choose doesn't have to be connected to your character, nor does it have to be chosen or put into play now. This is for the benefit of players to add to and effect the setting while also giving a boost for individual plots.
For characters coming from normal worlds, this might seem tricky at first but we're happy to work with you on ideas and encourage players to get creative. If you can't think of anything now but want to reserve the idea for the future, then say so and be sure to email us once you have an idea.]
Speaking Sample: [Time for the dreaded samples. The speaking sample requires [insert min. requirement here??] so we can get a clear idea of the character's voice. While there's no strict prompt, we do suggest it relate to the setting somehow to show your own understanding and that you've read through what's needed. There's no format restriction, though we suggest again to look at the formats most used for the game and consider using one of them. Your character could be explaining something or giving their reaction or their reasons for coming here or why they hate it or don't mind it. Please, no meta use like in dear_mun, however. We want to be able to read this part and get a clear idea of the character's voice.]
Prose Sample: [This section needs only to be done once, when first apping into the game. Any characters you toss in after won't need this section filled out. All we want here is to see that you can write prose decently. No one needs to be amazing but proper spelling and a grasp of writing should be demonstrated.]
