Who Remix Fic!

Nov 10, 2013 07:53

The dw_remix stories went live yesterday, so here's the one I did. It was a little bit challenging for me, as, by chance, I was assigned to the same person I remixed in last year's Remix Redux, and all I could think was, "But I had a hard enough time settling on a story to remix the first time!" This one did sort of call to me, though. Stories featuring ( Read more... )

I do like the idea of the two of them getting to know each other, which is why I could not resist tackling this particular fic. :)

Yes! There are a lot of things Leela knows better than the Doctor-much she doesn't need to learn from him.

Yes! That's something I think Leela often doesn't get enough credit for, even from the Doctor. She's not remotely stupid. In fact, she's actually really, really smart. She may be ignorant about a lot of things, but that's not at all the same as being dumb, and much of what she doesn't know, she learns remarkably quickly. And the things she does know and has experience at, she's very good at, indeed.

Also, I watched "The Face of Evil" again before writing this and was struck, not for the first time, by the fact that she's actually quite a rational, skeptical person within the context of her own culture. And that's even before she ever meets the Doctor.

In conclusion: Leela rocks, and I love her. :)

I knew there was a story I meant to comment on! I enjoyed this very much, from the moment Leela feels the lever eagerly leaping under her hand via her recognition of the paradox of the Doctor's intelligence to her acceptance that she can play only a short part in his life and her gladness that the TARDIS will remain his friend. I like the fact that she doesn't perceive herself as The Doctor's Special Friend - and on the matter of her intelligence, I'm sure that lacking certain preconceptions may give her an advantage over more sophisticated companions, including an ability to recognise that a machine may be alive.

Thanks! I do love Leela. :)

And I don't think she does perceive herself as the Doctor's Special Friend. Actually, if anything, I think she perceives herself as the Doctor's protector, which I've always found most amusing and rather warming. :)
