More Trope Bingo, Now With Doctor Who!

Jan 24, 2013 11:14

Whee, it's Trope Bingo story #2! I'm actually debating, now, whether to stick with the bottom row, or whether to go for a bingo on the diagonal, and use the last one I wrote for the free space. Either way, though, I end up having to write a genderswap story, so here it is! There's probably quite a bit I could say about this one, but I'll just ( Read more... )

This is a very neat and sensible take on it. And also very cute. :)

Thank you. Neat and sensible is kind of what I was hoping for. The cute, I think, just sort of happened. :)

That made me smile. And once I laughed out loud, at "...so good old Occam wins again. He must remember to pop round and tell him later."

Thanks! I must admit, that bit kind of amused me, too. Especially as I didn't know I was going to write it until I found myself typing it. :)

For some reason, the idea of him trying to ruffle her face is very endearing. And oddly enough, the white shirt and waistcoat sound a bit like what I wore for The Crash of the Elysium. I knew it was a Doctorish outfit.

I'd really rather like to read about her meeting River now! Did you have any particular actor in mind?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that sounds like a Doctorish outfit!

I'd kind of like to read her meeting River now, too. I imagine it would actually go quite well. (I did have an idea for a bit I ended up not including about what might happen afterward, but it involved Jack rather than River. Mostly. :))

I had no particular actor in mind at all, I'm afraid. I'm pretty terrible at mental casting. :)

I think River would take it well. She'd know who it was, wouldn't she?

I'm sure she would. And might very well have already met her in that incarnation before. :)

Aww, thank you. It was kind of entertaining to write, I must say. :)

I'm sulking at your latest posts, btw, and completely OT.

I'm enjoying what I'm watching, but... Why don't I have new OUaT? Whhhyyyy can't I speculate with everyone?

*sulks some more*

(It's a terrible show, isn't it? I should just remind myself I never bother speculating and am rubbish at it. Heh.)

Awww, I feel your pain. Believe me, I so, so feel your pain. And I want you to be able to come speculate with me, too! And, wow, you should see some of the stuff that happens in S2... I mean, um, no, really it's awful. You're not missing anything. Really. Yup. :)

I love this! I don't actually dislike the "omg-I'm-female" kind of stories, if they're done well, but I love how you point out that if one is the kind of being where radical changes of physicality are the norm, then changing gender isn't that radical. Mind you, I think it helps with this PoV that we now know in canon that changing gender for a Time Lord isn't unusual, whereas before "The Doctor's Wife", if a fan wrote a gender-changing regeneration, there was often a factor of "oh no, something has gone wrong because changing gender isn't normal". But just like how you convey the "oh, breasts" as just another change, and I think it's a good juxtaposition with "oh, I'm shorter" because height is pretty fundamental, because it affects so many things - your centre of gravity, how you walk, how far you can reach, how other people perceive you. I also love the thought he has that sharp cheekbones and a pointy chin will help people underestimate him.

And I love his/her outfit; practical and stylish and unconventional. Actually, I want her ( ... )

I'm not sure I really have seen it done well, sadly. The few examples I've encountered have mostly managed to hit some of my own annoyance buttons pretty badly, mainly by doing things like implying that a fundamental part of being female is learning to walk in high heels, or that once you've got boobs, lipstick is suddenly way more interesting than planet-saving.

I'm pleased that everything you mention liking about this story is exactly what I was thinking when I wrote it, and what I was trying to put into it.

And I very well might wear that outfit, too. Although no one has ever accused me of being stylish. :)

Have you read Harry and the Tuesday Girl and its sequel/prequel Sunny And The Magic Box? They're very good. Mind you, part of that goodness is that they aren't focusing on the "oh no I'm female" part of it, so maybe they don't count?

And I very well might wear that outfit, too. Although no one has ever accused me of being stylish.

Waistcoats are always stylish.

Hmm, nope, I don't think those ring a bell. But not focusing too much on that is pretty much a good thing, in my estimation. :)

ETA: And I have now just read them, and they were, indeed, quite good. Thanks!
