OK, there are no doubt lots and lots of things I could say about tonight's Lost, but there's only one thing I really want to say: ( a slightly spoilery outburst )
I do believe the AU will turn out to be the real deal somehow, so I'm not too worried in that respect.
I don't actually object to killing characters, which is a very good thing, if I'm watching this show.
I want to say "me neither," but it would be a bald-faced lie, so I settle for understanding that sometimes, you have to kill off people for a story to have impact. And feeling lucky that most of the people who died weren't my favourites.
What annoys me a bit is the lack of storyline for Sun, Jin and Lapidus beforehand. Between them, they probably had 20 sentences of dialogue over the last two seasons and I think that's a failure of the writers.
Sayid I don't have that much trouble with, other than finding his storyline a bit unfortunate in general. I'm relieved they had him listen to Des, and had him come back from his stupor to buy the others some time.
And there is another thing... I think it would have been really brave to kill off Kate and Sawyer and have Sun and Jin survive to confront Smokey with Jack and Hurley instead. I'm not even asking for them killing Jack. But at least make it less obvious who is expendable.
Yeah, Sun and Jin have definitely been under-served lately, except in their AU episodes, and killing them off just when their story starts holding the potential to get interesting again is doubly unfortunate. Lapidus I feel less bad about in that respect, as he was always a secondary character, albeit one I really liked, so I hardly expected him to be developed more than he was.
Personally, I still wish they'd killed off Jack in the pilot, the way they apparently originally intended to. Now, that would have been brave!
