Rockin' The Commentaries

Man, lately I am feeling pretty stressy, and I'm sleeping badly and having to keep myself awake at bizarre hours. These Pretender commentaries are really helping me keep my brain together. So I watched the one for S2's "Red Rock Jarod" too:

Lots of longish pauses on this track, which is always kind of annoying. Man, you'd think they'd have lots to say about an episode like this, too. Once they get going, though, it's reasonably interesting. There's some discussion about the thematic elements of the show, which are, y'know, really incredibly obvious -- It's about family? Really? -- but I'm happy to hear about 'em anyway.

There's also a lot of praise for the acting, especially Jamie Denton's as Lyle. The shows producers/creators were very, very enamored of the way he could portray the "Jimmy Stewart" exterior and then gradually peel it away to reveal the twistedness beneath, and apparently that's why they ended up giving Lyle as big a role as they did. They also had some lovely things to say about Paul Dillon: "He could do more with no lines than most people could do with a soliloquy." So true.

There was one point where, to my vast amusement, they started going on about how much attention they paid to details and how all the pieces fit together and made perfect sense... It's the most adorably deluded thing ever, really. I just sort of want to pat them on their little TV-makin' heads.
