OK, here's a drabble for aurora_novarum, who wanted SG1, provided the prompt "What do you mean, 'next time'?", and suggested that I do anything I like with it, or, indeed, anything SG1-ish at all. So I did, I dunno, something.

One thing that Daniel's learned since the beginning of the Stargate program is that, good or bad, there's always a next time. Always a next mission, a next planet, a next brilliant or dumb idea. A next threat, a next loss, a next defeat. A next chance, and, if that doesn't work, a universe next to this one where things might go differently. And always, somehow, a next life for him, whether he's ready for one or not.
Some days, he's profoundly grateful for all those nexts. And some days, he really wishes they'd stop, just for a little while.
