I Believe It's Traditional to Quote Granny Weatherwax at This Point...

Erm, I haven't been hit by a bus or anything, honestly. Not that I imagine you're all sitting around fretting about me because I haven't posted here in a week, but I figured it was time to check in, anyway. Sadly, I've gotten very little done, writing-wise, in the last few weeks. As alluded to earlier (and explicated at much greater length on myRead more... )

Actually, I'd been wondering for ages what that aten't dead business was about, and then I read an article on something or other a couple of days ago and found out.

Ah, if you're not familiar with the source material, you're missing out! :)

I did read one once, and it may even have included the line, as I remember Granny Weatherwax featured. But I don't remember much of it. It was pleasant enough, but I didn't feel a need to go out and read the rest of them.

The best ones feature the Watch rather than the witches. It was Vimes and Vetinari who hooked me (I don't mean as a couple, though it has been mooted....)

My favorite was always Mort, though it's been long enough since I've read it now that I don't exactly remember why. Other than that it had Death in it, and Death is fun. :)

A friend gave me Mort as an introduction to the series, and I was not impressed, and didn't bother with any of the others.

I didn't much care for Mort either, though I'm in a minority. Apart from the first two Discworld novels, it's my least favourite. Any of the ones featuring the Watch are good. Of the others, a particular favourite of mine is Equal Rites, the third Discworld book.

I'd agree with this, though there's not a lot in it. Vimes is a marvellous creation, a fully three dimensional and very sympathetic character, though I confess to finding Carrot rather annoying at times (though fortunately he's been toned down in the more recent books).
