This week's
farscapefriday challenge was to write something humorous. Well, I thought the concept behind this was hysterically amusing, but wasn't sure whether the story itself lived up to it, so I'm glad to see from the comments there that people did, indeed, think it was funny.
327 words. Vague, indirect spoilers for Season 4.

The Next Generation
It's not easy being a half-breed. Or whatever it is that I actually am. People look at you funny when they find out. And you never really feel like you fit in anywhere. My father claims he knows how I feel, says that all I really need is to make a place for myself, the way he did. Like frell. It wasn't exactly the same for him, was it? He doesn't really understand me at all. Neither of my parents do. They're always putting pressure on me, trying to force me to be things that I don't want to be. My father's always going on about how I have to learn science, study wormholes and boring stuff like that. And my mother keeps telling me how it's a dangerous galaxy out there, how everyone'll be out to frell me over, how I have to know how to take care of myself. Like I haven't learned that already, living with the two of them for sixteen cycles.
But, you know what? I don't care if they don't understand me. Because I've finally met someone who does. I've met this terrific girl, a hybrid like me, and she has exactly the same kinds of problems with her parents, right down to the wormholes. I don't know why her folks and mine seem to hate each other, since they're so much alike. Some kind of ancient history stuff. I don't really care.
I'm going out to meet her tonight. We've got it all arranged. I'm going to steal a transport and meet her on the commerce planet in the next system over. It'll be just the two of us, no one around to tell us what to do. Sure, when I get back Mother's going to be literally climbing the walls, and Father will probably want to stick me in the Aurora Chair, but frell it, anyway. I've got the feeling this Crichton girl is going to be worth it.

By the way, I'm usually quite allergic to stories about the characters' children in any fandom -- IMHO, they're almost always contrived and not terribly interesting -- but, hey, it's humor. Speaking of which, the funniest thing about this idea, for me, is the thought of the look on Crichton's face when he finds out... :)
