Here I am, sitting in my new cubicle, in San Dimas, California. How did I get here? Well, sit back and I'll tell you the story...
It all started back on Wednesday morning. I came into work, eager to get another humpday out of the way, when I was told by my manager, Craig, that Tom, the IT Director, wanted to see me right away. "Oh Shit, what did I do?" was the only thing I was thinking. So, I went back to Tom's office, and he tells me "you know what this is about, right?" and I'm thinking, "NO!" Well, he tells me that he tried to call me the night before, both on the cell and the landline. Unfortunately, I rarely turn the cell on and my son likes to turn the machine off at home, so I didn't get any message until well after speaking with Tom.
So, he tells me that they want me on a plane to Ontario, CA (Just outside of LA) right away to help out with a project out there dealing with project/resource management for engineers.
So, I go home, pack, and jump on a plane. Had a nasty layover in Dallas due to sleet, but finally get to California at around 2am Tulsa Time. And, let me tell you, driving at midnight in California, is not a fun time. Luckily, my company had me rent a navigation system, so at least I had that security blanket.
I got to the hotel, unpacked a bit, and went to sleep. I got up the next day and attended several meetings with people out here. They tell me that they need me out here at least 4 days a week until around March, most likely.
So, I made travel arrangements to return yesterday night. They got me set up with a desk, a phone, and a docking station for my laptop.
I got back to Tulsa on Saturday and spent time with family, getting to see the babies and all. I set up the home computer with a webcam, so that I could talk to Stephanie and the kids when I am away.
On Monday, I worked about a half day in Tulsa and got my new work cell phone, with camera and internet access. I'm ready to turn off my personal cell and the home phone and just get steph a cricket phone, but that will have to wait until I get back.
So, I caught my flight around 3pm on Monday, had a layover in Denver, and got into California about 9pm Tulsa Time. Not too bad. I grabbed some food and went to my room and watched some football and played online a bit. (High speed connections in the room is very GOOD).
So, now I'm at work. And I'll be here until the afternoon of Wednesday, the 21st, then I work Thursday in Tulsa, and then the company shuts down til the 3rd of January, so I get to spend a lot of quality time with the family. Fun Fun Fun.
Bought Rampart, Gauntlet, Paperboy, and Rampage for the game boy and they have been occupying my airline time quite nicely... especially Rampart.
