yes, the iphone is one sexy little thing and i too am dying to have one. i'm going to hold off on getting one, mostly because buying a first generation of anything is generally a bad idea. i mean, look at the ipod--the first one had really shitty battery life and wasn't half as cool at the next one that came out. phones are a new market for apple--this iphone doesn't even have fcc compliance yet. if something goes wrong with that it could push out the release date (not that i think there would be problems...just being pessimistic

here's the thing, if your contract is up anyways, go to wirefly.com and get a FREE razr and a new contract all in one. about two months ago i caved and bought a cellphone and went through wirefly.com. no gimics, just a new free blue razr and a two year contract with cingular. i mean, i had to sign a contract with cingular anyways, but the best deal they had was the phone for $100 and all the other terms and conditions.
like valerie said, i would totally hold off on buying a first generation iphone. that way you know what the problems are with the phone, you can test it at a cingular store and read actual buyer's reviews on the new phone.
STAY AWAY FROM THE iPHONE FOR ALL THE REASONS VALERIE MENTIONED. 6-hour battery life? 4GB for $500, and it's supposed to hold all of my music and movies and pictures and yadda yadda? Come on, Apple, you can do better.
I say go with the 30GB iPod. And are they seriously only $250? Man, I should have asked for one of those as a birthday/Christmas combination gift... my nano is almost full and it was $200. But it is a pretty green. Sigh.
