Raising the slack bar to new hieghts

Wow. It's been a long time. And I only kind of know why. Let's call up our good friends, the bullets, to help with this.

- Valentine's Day was good. We went out to dinner at Bucca di Beppo (first time, and YUM!) with Dan & Melissa and two other couples. Much fun, much PG-13 humor, and much really good food.

- We left the next Friday and headed up to the cabin for the long weekend. Craig & Rebecca beat us there by two hours or so. We did as little as possible save feeding ourselves and ensuring that children were cared for. It was blissful. We watched Sliding Doors while there, and I am newly enamored of John Hannah. Seriously, I could probably get off to the sound of that man reading a phone book. Plus it's just a great flik.

- Came home on Monday. Tuesday night, I had a sore throat. Wednesday, I had full-blown strep. Again. Another monster shot of penicillin in the butt, and two more days dead to the world on the couch. Yeah. That got my laundry done.

- Managed to shower on Saturday, and insisted that we Leave. The. House. So we went to Wal*Mart. I'm not sure why. I mean, we needed some stuff, but nothing exclusive to hell. And all the things that I loathe about Wal*Mart were on display in full force. That being said though, their Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine entrees are a dollar cheaper than anywhere else (barring the occasional sale), and we discovered Hamburger Helper in single serving, microwavable portions. This is fantastic news for my kids at lunch time. They devoured them yesterday, and $2 for four pouches is very okay. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the PB&J, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, etc... for lunches, but this is a nice change. And since I usually have a salad or baked potato for lunch, and since my kids need a significantly larger amount of fat in their diets than I, this works well all around.

- Hey Jess, are your hands still dry? Have you tried "Look Ma, New Hands" from Bath & Body Works? It's amazing. The only stuff I've found that can save my hands from Utah winters. It's a tad expensive, but so worth it.

- Aaron has interviewed for three jobs now. One would hire him today if he could, but it's contract and only for about 6 weeks right now. It could turn into more, but not certain, so rather risky. Another is simply trying to decide if they can afford him, and the last is supposed to call him today for a second, more in depth interview. Something has got to happen, right? Because I so need out of this basement. It's wearing on me.

- I gave Roger a copy of those song lyrics I wrote a while back. He called me last week and told me who I should call because he thinks they're really good. (p.s. Roger is our neighbor who is also a singer/songwriter.)

- These band-aids really are waterproof! I took a small chunk of skin off my index finger knuckle getting the syrup thingy open to refill it this morning. So I grabbed one and put it on. I then proceeded to wash an entire sink full of dishes, and it's still stuck on, and no water got in. Color me amazed.

- While I was checking e-mail yesterday, Alex threw a phone. It hit my keyboard and broke off my "tab" key. I can still use the function -- there's a little nubbin I can push, but I don't like not having such an important key. Boo.

- I think I've discovered the reason (excuse?) I can't keep my house clean. I know that part of it is just me choosing to do other things like update my journal, rather than clean. But I think part of it is simply that there isn't room in this basement for all of our stuff. Even if I were to spend every hour of every day of the next two weeks doing nothing but organize and clean, it would still look cluttered and messy. And the OCD part of my personality looks at it and thinks, "So I could bust my butt for 14 days, and it still wouldn't look good? Well screw that. Why bother then?" It's my own quirky antithesis, I guess, to the adage, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well." My version, however is more like, "If I can't do it right, I'm not going to do it at all." Just one more reason I need my own space.

- Rebecca and I are going to see "Music and Lyrics" tomorrow night sans husbands and kids. I'm probably more excited about this than warranted.

I suppose that brings me up to date a bit. Besides, Alex is ready for a nap, and I probably ought to get Cooper and myself dressed. You know, with it being almost noon and all.

OH!!! Susan is getting married! This means I get to go to Houston in April. And Jen and Mike finally set a date for June 8th. Bring it.
