A couple of months back, there was this bout of Paper Telephone that I've just now gotten around to recording for posterity:

Why is Dr. Wily nailing Frankenstein's Monster?

He's implanting the ABCs into his creation's medulla oblongata, of course. Why else?

Unless you're wondering why it isn't Dr. Frankenstein HIMSELF doing the nailing.

Well, Herr Doktor was a notorious plagiarist. The results he published to the mad-science community were often lifted directly from his colleagues/rivals/nemeses' research. It was in Dr. Wily's early, somewhat naive days that Frankenstein was able to steal his glory. But Wily has still been able to establish a long, villainous career for himself anyway, so perhaps we shouldn't be too harsh in our judgement of Frank.

I find myself wondering how the hell you got from "kite" to "bike" in a single step...

--Obs, My kingdom to be able to toss out sketches like Bill, though. How do you artsy people do that without erasers or underlying sketches?

Yeah, he seemed kind of embarrassed about it at the end. "I know it said 'kite'! My brain just made me draw a bike! I don't know! Shut up!"

My kingdom to be able to toss out sketches like Bill, though.
He's one of the best illustrators I've ever known. I try to curb my jealousy by reminding myself that he's had almost ten years' more practice than I, but I don't have the heart to look at what he was doing at my age...

How do you artsy people do that without erasers or underlying sketches?
For Bill, that IS an underlying sketch. I guess what it comes down to is that when you do that sort of thing for a living for years on end, things become more and more automatic.

I think the crapshoot that is my PT output is a pretty good example of how luck plays into it. Sometimes stuff CAN look fairly decent, but only if things just happen to align when I jump into it.

HOLY.

Rose, you are eleventy-three different kinds of awesome. Feel free to pilfer any and all from my repository:

And... man, if I didn't already have the burden of scannage to surmount, I'd totally go and do up my KICKASS IDEA of how to make the site look super-hot. I can completely see it in my head what graphics and tricks I'd use, plus the architecture of the sub-pages.

Not to impugn on your design or anything - it certainly gets the job done, and the repurposed sketches are adorable. But man... I got IDEAS.

(And I'm not even thinking yet of the online-game version we talked about.)

I just threw the site together really quick just to have something. I freely admit the design isn't all that great. If you have a good idea for layout, then feel free to redesign it.
