The end. . it is near. . .

so advisor says I just need to work on/finish the two papers I have in the works right now and I could be finito as a graduate student. That is to say I can be insufferable and demand everyone refer to me as Doctor Ryan.

Oh sweet jebus it would be so nice to be done. But then what the heck do I do with my life? Guess it's a good thing I'm tossing in those postdoc applications. Too bad those postdoc applications are here (well literally Pasadena because there is yet another mission to be launched at the end of year that ties in perfectly with what I've been doing), so a possible long distance marriage might have to take place for a year or so. I'd be lying if I said that I couldn't see some perks to the long distance- no fighting for bed covers, the ability to sleep diagonally across the bed and no husband and dog crowding me on the queen sized bed. Then again those could probably be accomplished with buying a king sized bed too. . . .

Anyhow, November/October is starting to look like a reasonable goal. And that won't even include all the data I was planning to use. Of course if I don't get a postdoc I may drag the grad student thing out an additional semester or two if the grant money exists for that sort of thing.

But then how will my PhD advisor get multiple telescopes covered at the same time? He needs me this week as I cover comet Lulin in the optical here at Kitt Peak (which by the way- has a bitchin long tail and looks fabulous) so somehow I doubt I'll escape from his evil army of former grad students.

school, astro
