“What do you think?” Alex asked.

Meredith smiled. “It’s very pink.”

“Too pink?”

“We are talking about Lexie’s daughter here, I doubt there’s a thing as too pink.”

Alex grinned. “My kid too.”

“Yeah, yeah, you’re a pink person.”

“Hey,” he protested.

“Come on, you have to have noticed that you’re completely surrounded by women.”

“I’m popular.”

“You’re like a giant pink teddy bear.”

He put the dress back on the rack and frowned. “It’s not very Christmasy.”

“So we will find something Christmasy.”

He nodded. “Red, maybe. Or green. Or both.”

“Relax, daddy, we’ll find the perfect thing.”

“Hey,” Alex said softly when he stepped into the house.

Lexie smiled. “Hey.”

He padded across the room to kiss her forehead. “How are you?”

“Good. How are you?”

“I’m good. You get some rest.”

“We did. Did you find a dress?”

“I think so.”

She beamed at him. “Perfect.”

He reached into the bassinet next to the bed and lifted the baby out. “Hi babe, how are you?”

“I think she missed you.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah. We both did.”

“You didn’t spend all your time thinking I’d pick something ugly?”

“I happen to think you have excellent taste, actually.”

“I am pretty awesome.”

“You are. So show me.”

He handed her the bag and watched her lift out the tiny red and green plaid dress.

“See? Perfect. Just like you.”

“Just like our girl, maybe.”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Lexie said. “I think you’re pretty perfect for us.”
