Don/Stella, Snowy first kisses
“Guess they’re letting anybody in here these days,” Don said with a grin when he walked into the squad room to find Stella sitting on his desk.
“Be nice, Detective,” she said with a smile. “Or I’ll tell Santa to give you coal.”
“You wouldn’t,” he said, holding a hand playfully to his chest.
“I wouldn’t risk it if I were you,” she said, her eyes sparkling with laughter.
She stood up when he made his way around the desks to her side and hugged him tightly.
“How’s the Big Easy?” he asked.
She shrugged. “It’s alright. Buy me a coffee and I’ll tell you all about it.”
He reached around her to grab his jacket and ushered her outside where he bought two cups of coffee from the cart and handed her one.
“You’re sight for sore eyes,” he said, watching her as they walked.
She smiled. “Did you miss me?”
“Little bit,” he answered. “Did you miss me?”
She nodded slowly. “I miss everyone. I miss the city. I miss…” she shook her head. “I miss a lot of things.”
“But you’re happy right?” he asked, studying her.
She blinked. “Sometimes. I don’t know. It’s…harder than I thought it would be.”
He frowned. “You havin’ second thoughts?”
“And third and fourth ones,” she answered.
He stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. “Are you thinking about something back?”
She swallowed. “Yeah,” she finally admitted. “I guess I am.” She turned her face up, closing the eyes. “I miss the snow.” When she opened her eyes again she lowered her gaze to his eyes. “So what do you think, Donnie?” she asked. “Do you think it’s possible to go home again?”
“Yeah,” he said. “I do.”
She smiled as snow fell around them and pedestrians jostled them against each other.
“And if I came home,” she continued. “I’d have something to come home to?”
He tucked a loose curl behind her ears before leaning in to kiss her softly. “If you come home, you’ll have something to come home to. Someone, even, if you play your cards right.”
She fingered his lapel before pressing her lips against his again. “Then I better play them right, huh?”
“Yeah,” he said with a grin. “You better.”
