For Clo
“Xylocarpous means bearing fruit that become hard or woody,” Rowan read.
“Fascinating,” Eli murmured.
She glanced up at him. “You’re not even listening. This is important.”
He laughed. “It’s really, really not.”
“I am your wife and I think it’s important, so it’s important,” she insisted.
He shook his head. “Brilliant logic, doctor.”
“Yes,” she said firmly. “It is.”
“This is important,” he said, holding up magazine.
“A car magazine? We live in New York, no one even drives.”
“Right, but we have xylocarpous all over the place.”
“We might,” she protested. “Come on, pay attention.”
“Okay, I know you want to win this game,” he said, “but it’s family game night and you’re making me study. You don’t think that’s a little extreme?”
“I used to win all the time. I’m…I’m a doctor. It’s not fair.”
“I know baby.”
“Vivi has to go start sleeping with Adam and now suddenly they’re the smart ones. It was so much better when my parents refused to speak to him.”
“Yeah,” Eli said. “Those were the good old days.”
“Don’t make fun of me,” she said warningly.
“Never. I find this whole competitive streak of yours hot.”
“Stop distracting me from studying.”
“Do I get some kind of reward if we win?” he asked with a grin.
“Of course,” she said, kissing him softly.
“Alright,” he said, tossing the magazine aside. “Give me the book.”
