Before this fall, the last marching band competition I had been to was a drum show in Stillwater....in 2000? BF at the time had never seen a field show before and didn't really "get" the coolness of it. Maybe it would have helped if they would have served beer. Christine's son, Christopher had a competition nearby so Zanna and I took the kids to see it. Chris plays oboe, but apparantly they don't march oboes here and so he did tympany (sp?). I also noticed that they don't march trombones here. I guess it's just Adams 12 that doesn't allow trombones to march because they're too dangerous. Yeah, watch out for those trombones... they'll getcha' every time! It was very odd. BUT, they did march an electric guitar and an insturnment that I have yet to figure out.
Do you know what this is? An electric sax?
A simple formation executed perfectly is better than an complicated one that's a little sloppy. IMO. Their show was Picasso, as you can see from the colorguard's uniforms.
The judge commented on Chris' playing and remarked that he needed a harder part to play. :D
Hoping to see some of these good bands in the St. Patty's Day parade in a couple weeks. Though Christine says they don't do parades much around here. Blake wants to lead a marching band. Noellyn was really into the music.
