On Introversion--Thoughts Which Might Lead to a Story, Someday

I recently read a book called Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking, by Susan Cain, and basically this book has explained so much about myself. I think I have a much better understanding of who I am, and I really wish the entire world would just read this book so I wouldn't have to keep explaining myself. And also maybe life wouldn't be so difficult for introverts if we didn't live in such a fucking extroverted society.

There's been research that's shown that things like open floor plans and group projects are all geared toward extroverted people, but none of that leads to good ideas or good work. Open floor plans lead to more distraction. More ideas aren't necessarily good, and the introverts that have good ideas are often too worried about conflict to bring them up. Etc., etc., etc.

Professional musicians practice better on their own, and spend more of their time practicing in private than playing in groups. Playing in a group atmosphere does not help them improve.

I also just want to point out that shyness and introversion are not the same. Shyness means pain or fear in social situations, which is not always true of introverts. Extroverts can be shy, too.

But anyway, this book has had me thinking a lot lately about the Myers-Briggs personality test. I am an INFP, same as my mom, which is like <1% of the population. Apparently my entire immediate family is all IN's, which is weird and kind of rare, although my dad has some TJ in him I guess, and I'm not really sure about my sisters.

Jon pulled up his results from college and found that he's an ESTJ, the exact opposite of me. Interesting. Explains a bit.

All this had me wondering about what other people might be, and since I'm in a Sherlock-y mood I decided to guess what Sherlock and John might be. My best guess for Sherlock is ISTJ, and I'm thinking John might be an ENFJ, although I'm not completely sold on it.

I kind of want to write a story about it. Psychology is so interesting.

Also work is so boring and it's giving me headaches lately.
