What is it with Merlin this year and the endings to the episodes being so godamn rushed? Last week and now this.
And wow, did they ruin Uther`s very concilliatory final ep last year. It`s not that his jerkdom is out of character but his love for his children has always been his redeeming factor. Didn`t he even say in one ep he loved Arthur before the kingdom? Now he was actually ready to what? Do him in and rule as a ghost? Come on.
If they would have had a final scene with him coming to his senses and sharing a warmer moment with his son, fine but because of the rushed ending, it left a bad taste in my mouth. I can only make sense of it by believing ghostliness makes you more angry and violent, Supernatural-style.
Also, the reveal tease was just a jackass thing to do like that. Nobody believed a reveal would be taking place anyway at this point so to cut it off - dramatically - before the last word? Come on. Jackass thing to do, knowing how nearly your entire viewing audience raises a middle finger to "keep the magic secret" now.
Merthur has had some good moments. And I kinda enjoyed that Gaius and Merlin didn`t lie their asses off to Arthur about stuff. Which, granted, would have been hard to do in the circumstances but it was nice to see him included. Though it sure would have been nice if Gaius had shared his little wealth of information on veil-opening BEFORE anyone opened any veils. Good god, that man infuriates me.
The line about the poetry? Hee. Leon is great for moments like those. Just as he was boring the entire round table half to death. Another hee. Guess we know now what will drive Mordred evil. *g*
But, Merlin, seeing Arthur show compassion and kindness and stand up for a sorceress like that, should that not give him pause? He defended Arthur to Uther and I do think he genuinely believes in Arthur but just never enough to be honest with him? I used to be sympathetic but he can`t bemoan not having that open friendship that he wants to have with Arthur when he is the one who just never will be open from his end. Never.
