Ficlet written for an episode prompt over at laura_lee_bsg. Just because it's, like, wordz. And I feel I must celebrate wordz at the moment in the hope it will encourage new wordz to emerge, so I'm putting this here for posterity.

Title: Thirty Three
Characters: Laura, Billy, Lee (mentioned)
Rating: PG
Word count: c. 800

Minute eighteen )

Yay for words! Let's hope that's not it for the next six months.

oooh, ouch. <3

Every thirty three minutes, another reminder, like a slow heartbeat. Cancer. Terminal. Cancer. And every time, she has to fight the urge to curl up in a ball and give in. Just stop.

OH LAURA.

Guh. Gorgeous and heartbreaking. I love her thoughts, so tormented by the smallness of her body and the looming enormity of the task ahead of her. Her fragility shines through, but only for a moment until she remembers what she is fighting for, and thinks of her Captain and finds the will to keep going on.

Your writing is marvelous and melodic. Write every day, even only fifty words. You have a gift. *HUGS*

Oh, thank you, honey! ♥ I kinda fell in love with the idea that what he represents to her, and who he is, is what gives her the strength to keep pushing onwards during that horrible time, so I'm glad that it worked :)

I'm gonna keep trying. Fingers crossed that mental block on writing is starting to loosen.

This is lovely! You get us right inside her head, so quietly, so vividly. I love the moment about the stars losing their beauty - and this is just the beginning, poor kids. Well done! :)

Laura's head is so comfy. I never know whether to be worried about that or not, heh.

I love the moment about the stars losing their beauty - and this is just the beginning, poor kids.

Yeah, I can imagine that the sight of the stars and the universe would lose their attraction very quickly when you know that might be all you ever see again. No green, no blue sky - just blackness and tiny points of light forever and ever.

Oh, this is lovely. Laura remains such an enigma to me, but you sketch her with all her pain and fear and hope with such wondrous clarity that for the few minutes I'm reading your stories I understand her.

Aw, thank you! People often say that she's really hard to get, so I love knowing that I can sometimes help people understand her a little bit ♥
